Quick Reference

A representation of a baryon in which the baryon is regarded as a soliton for a meson field theory. This picture of baryons can be justified using quantum chromodynamics and gives very useful insights into both baryons and nuclear structure. It is named after the British physicist Tony Skyrme (1922–87) who proposed this theory of baryons in the 1960s.
