skin depth

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The effective depth of penetration (m, in metres) of an electromagnetic wave of frequency f Hz, at which the amplitude of the wave has been attenuated by 1/e (37%) of its surface value. It can be calculated by: zs = 503.8/√(σf) = 503.8√(ρ/f), where σ is the conductivity (in S/m) and ρ the resistivity (in Ω/m) of the medium.
