Overview

sliding–toppling condition

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Where a rigid body is at rest on a plane, it can be determined whether it will slide or topple first by calculating what the minimum force is for it to topple, assuming it does not slide, and then calculate what the minimum force is for it to slide, assuming it does not topple first. The lower of these two minima will tell which happens first.
