Quick Reference

(enteroclysis) a technique for examining the jejunum and ileum by passing a tube through the nose, oesophagus, and stomach into the small bowel and directly injecting barium. It gives excellent detail of the lining of the small bowel but is more uncomfortable than a small-bowel meal. It is particularly useful for showing small-intestinal diseases, such as coeliac disease and Crohn’s disease, as well as strictures, tumours, and obstructions.
