Dutch dancer, choreographer, and ballet director. She studied with Jooss and Leeder and during the war (illegally) opened her own school in Amsterdam, staging ‘underground’ performances in aid of artists working in the resistance movement. In 1945 she founded the Scapino Ballet to present dance for children, for which she choreographed many ballets, and she was a pioneer in Dutch dance education. She was made Officer of the Order of Oranje Nassau in 1960 and retired from Scapino in 1970.
