In modern Russian theology it denotes a unity of many persons within the organic fellowship of the Church, each person maintaining full freedom and personal integrity. It is claimed as a special characteristic of the Orthodox Church, contrasted with the emphasis on juridical authority in the RC Church and the individualism of the Protestant communions.
