Another name for emotional intelligence, especially those aspects concerned with the ability to perceive, appraise, and express emotions accurately and the ability to comprehend emotional messages and to make use of emotional information. Its existence as a distinct characteristic would require evidence for high correlations among different measures of social intelligence and low correlations between such measures and conventional measures of intelligence, and neither of these requirements has been adequately fulfilled.
