soft lining

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A resilient semipermanent denture base lining material which allows more even distribution of loading. Examples of soft lining materials are silicone rubber (poly dimethyl siloxane polymer with added filler) and acrylic soft liners containing either leachable or polymerizable plasticizers. Soft linings are indicated for older patients with thin atrophic mucosa, following prosthetic surgery, or to utilize soft tissue undercuts for retention. Soft liners are contraindicated in patients with low salivary flow because of the tendency to cause uncomfortable friction on the mucosal surface.
