Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The conjoining of the homologous chromosomes in somatic cells, a phenomenon seen in dipterans. The fact that the polytene chromosomes of Drosophila undergo somatic pairing makes possible the identification of chromosomal rearrangements, the mapping of deficiencies, and, as a result, the cytological localization of genes. See Diptera, transvection.
