a country gentleman, is remembered as the author of The Chace (1735), a poem in four books of Miltonic blank verse on the pleasures of hunting. In 1740 he published Hobbinol, a mock‐heroic account of rural games in Gloucestershire (see Cotswold Olimpick Games).
