(orig. Fr. title Chant du compagnon errant)
Ballet in one act with choreography by Béjart and music by Mahler. Premiered 11 Mar. 1971 by the Ballet of the 20th Century at Forest National, Brussels, with Paolo Bortoluzzi and Nureyev. This frequently performed duet is set to Mahler's song-cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and portrays a romantic youth who rages in despair but is soothed by the dark figure of Fate. It has been revived for many different pairs of dancers.
