Utah-born novelist, many of whose works, including A Little Lower Than the Angels (1942), On This Star (1946), The Evening and the Morning (1949), Many Heavens (1954), and Kingdom Come (1960), deal sympathetically and knowingly with Mormon life. She has also written books for children and Where Nothing Is Long Ago (1963), recollections of her childhood as a Mormon. She lives in Morocco with her husband, Alec Waugh.
