A diverse group of proteins involved in trafficking and sorting of transmembrane proteins. They all have a phospholipid-binding (phox homology, PX) domain and tend to form protein–protein complexes, in some cases with receptor tyrosine kinases, in other cases with TGFβ family receptors. Sorting nexin-1 is a component of the mammalian retromer complex.
