Quick Reference

A generic term used to describe compression methods that take advantage of some characteristic of the data to be compressed which is related to the application. For example, video files consist of data which represent each frame of the video, with each frame differing only slightly from the previous one. Because of this, such files can be stored as an initial frame followed by data which describes the difference between each individual frame.
