A US organization that promotes the large-scale permanent human settlement of space. Its members include scientists and engineers, political and media professionals, and entrepreneurs. Established in 1988, the foundation works for a ‘citizen's space policy’ and the opening of space to everyone through free markets and free enterprise.
In 1994, the foundation lobbied to privatize the International Space Station as ‘Alpha Town’ to maximize the economic activity there. In July 2004, the organization held its fifth annual symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada, ‘Return to the Moon V’, promoting lunar settlement.
