Quick Reference

Negative semi‐circular impressions left in the ground as a result of systematically digging an area using a spade. The marks are best seen archaeologically when the tip of the spade penetrates and removes a slide of subsoil which is then replaced by mixed soil from above as the ground subsequently compacts.
