Quick Reference

Name given in the 1970s to a group of five Spanish artists, active mainly in Madrid and linked by ties of family or friendship, who worked in a detailed naturalistic style, sometimes akin to Superrealism: Francisco López (1932– ); Antonio López García (1936– ); Antonio López Torres (1902–87), uncle of López García; Maria Moreno (1933– ), wife of López García; and Isabel Quintanilla (1938– ), wife of Francisco López. All of them are painters, except for Francisco López, who is a sculptor and draughtsman. Antonio López Garcia was the subject of a 1993 film, The Quince Tree Sun, directed by Victor Erice, which recorded the artist's meticulous working processes.
