A star of spectral type O which shows emission lines due to doubly ionized nitrogen (N III) at 464 nm and singly ionized helium (He II) at 468.6 nm, in addition to the normal absorption-line spectrum. Bright examples include 2nd-mag. Zeta Puppis and 5th-mag. Lambda Cephei.
