A brain-specific 36-kDa protein, mutated in the mouse ataxic and epileptic mutant stargazin, that has structural similarity to the γ subunit of skeletal muscle voltage-gated calcium channels. Synaptic trafficking of AMPA receptors is apparently controlled by stargazin. There are structural similarities with clarins.
