statistical attack

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An attack on a database to which users are allowed limited access: for example, access in order to calculate information such as averages. A statistical attack uses this information to discover data that is secret. For example, a database containing employee details may be used by others to calculate the average salary of employees based on particular criteria. If a user discovered a criterion which only holds for one employee, and uses this information to find the average salary of all employees having that criterion, then the employee's salary could be easily discovered.
