statistical significance

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The probability that an event or difference occurred by chance alone. The significant level is the probability of making a decision to reject the null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is actually true (type I error). This is generally referred to in terms of the p-value. If the p-value is found to be less than the significance level (e.g. p = 0.05), then the null hypothesis is rejected.
