The use of heat from steam is effective at reducing weight, but only in the short term. Most of the weight loss is from increased sweating and is quickly replaced. Steam treatment may stimulate circulation of blood through the surface tissues and thus invigorate you. It may also help you to relax, for example, before a massage. But on its own it will not help you to lose weight. See also sauna.
