German architect. He carried out various works in Lorraine from 1941 and directed the design of housing for the Archdiocese of Cologne from 1947. He made his name with the reconstruction of the Franciscan Monastery, Cologne (1950), and designed many churches, including the St Elisabeth Parish Centre, Oplanden (1953–8), and the round-arched Carthusian Monastery of Marienau, Seibranz (1962–4—with Gisberth Hülsmann). He was a close friend of Rudolf Schwarz, who influenced his thinking.
