Quick Reference

A group of serine/threonine kinases involved in regulating a range of processes including the cell cycle, apoptosis, and stress responses. Yeast Ste20p (sterile 20 protein) is a mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase (MAP4K) involved in the mating pathway. The human homologues, of which there are 28, have a conserved kinase domain but a diversity of additional domains involved in interactions with signalling systems and cytoskeletal-regulatory proteins. The Ste20 group kinases are further divided into the p21-activated kinase (PAK) and germinal centre kinase (GCK) families.
