Quick Reference

A family of transcription factors that bind to the sterol regulatory element (SRE) in the promoter regions of genes that are involved in cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism. SREBPs are regulated by proteolytic cleavage by the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway and sumoylation (see insulin-induced genes; SCAP).
