Became ass. cond. to Thomas 1901, succeeding him 1905 and remaining cond. until his death (orch. became Chicago SO 1912). Gave f.p. of several Amer. works and introduced many modern works to Amer. audiences. Commissioned Walton's Scapino ov., 1940. Wrote 2 syms., vn. conc., chamber mus., etc.
