(gastric stapling, vertical banded gastroplasty) restrictive bariatric surgery in which staples are inserted into the wall of the stomach to form a small pouch, which restricts the amount of food that can be eaten. At the same time a gastric band is applied to limit the size of the opening between the pouch and the rest of the stomach.
