US dancer, choreographer, and director. He studied with Willam Christensen and at the University of Utah, performing first with San Francisco Ballet and then New York City Ballet (1962–70). In 1970 he joined Munich Opera Ballet as dancer and choreographer, then in 1973 moved to Frankfurt Ballet as ballet master and choreographer, becoming co-artistic director in 1975. Between 1977 and 2005 he was choreographer and co-artistic director of Pacific Northwest Ballet. He created many works for the company including Orpheus Portrait, Carmina Burana (mus. Orff), and Quaternary (mus. Rachmaninoff) and mounted productions of several classics including Nutcracker and Swan Lake. He is married to Francia Russell.
