Australian dancer and director. He studied at the Australian Ballet School and graduated into the company, where he became principal. In 1979 he moved to America where he joined the Joffrey Ballet and then American Ballet Theatre in 1981. He retired in 1990 to become assistant to the directors, company regisseur, and then assistant director (from 1992). In 1997 he was appointed director of Australian Ballet and between 2001 and 2002 he was director of the Royal Ballet.
