Quick Reference

An art movement that is anti-conceptual and champions figurative painting. It was founded in 1999 by Billy Childish and Charles Thomson. The term's origins lie in the artist Tracey Emin's accusation that the art of her ex-lover, Childish, was ‘stuck, stuck, stuck’. The movement is perhaps best known for its protests against the annual Turner Prize which, it argues, is controlled by an anti-popularist elite.
