The subcommissural organ, a highly conserved brain gland that secretes glycoproteins into the cerebrospinal fluid, where they aggregate to form Reissner's fibres. A major secreted protein is a form of spondin, SCO-spondin, a large multidomain protein probably involved in axonal growth and/or guidance.
