A thin layer of material placed beneath a lining in a prepared cavity. Calcium hydroxide may be placed as a sublining on partly demineralized dentine for its therapeutic effect but will require an additional lining if further thermal insulation is required. A sublining lacks the compressive strength of a lining material.
