Cream or lotion containing ingredients that scatter solar radiation and thus block access to the skin surface by harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation, thereby reducing the risk of sunburn and skin cancer. Most contain compounds of oxybenzone and/or para-aminobenzoic acid and come in varying strengths, some of which permit enough radiation to penetrate for tanning to occur.
