A highly conserved actin-binding protein (1788 aa) with homology to the gelsolin/villin family. It can modify the extent of crosslinking of actin in the cytoplasm and binds to myosin-II, but also has a nuclear localization signal and is a coregulator of the androgen receptor. Archvillin (2214 aa) is a splice variant found in smooth muscle.
