Quick Reference

An inhibitor of apoptosis (baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein, BIRC-5, 142 aa) that is selectively overexpressed in common human cancers. It is expressed in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle and associates with spindle microtubules; disruption of the survivin-microtubule interaction results in increased activity of caspase-3 and apoptotic death. Several splice variants have been described. Interacts with XIAP.
