Dir. Graz Opera 1947–9. Cond. Vienna Opera 1957. Cond. SNO 1957–9. Head of cond. class at Vienna Acad. of Mus. from 1946, pupils incl. Abbado and Mehta. Ed. Fr. versions of Gluck's Alceste and Orphée. Wrote parts of lib. of Strauss's Capriccio (incl. the Sonnet) but his part in this was suppressed by C. Krauss, the official librettist.
