bibliographer, bibliophile, dandy, and epicure, who became an authority on the literature of the 1890s and published An Anthology of ‘Nineties’ Verse in 1928. He wrote several biographies, but is best remembered for The Quest for Corvo: An Experiment in Biography (1934), a life of F. W. Rolfe.
