A set of signs and symptoms associated with the accumulation of fat in the abdomen. It is commonly associated with middle-aged males with a potbelly or paunch. It is linked to a number of disorders including late-onset diabetes, impaired glucose metabolism, gout, raised blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol levels. Those with syndrome X have a high risk of heart disease.
