Family of damselflies which breed in running water. They are distinguished by the arching forward of the posterior cubitus vein as it leaves the distal end of the quadrilateral in the wing. These damselflies often have an exceptionally long abdomen, and are metallic in colour. The family is mainly tropical, and 33 extant species have been described.
