Quick Reference

Weather phenomena that are c.250–2 000 km across, on the scale of continents or oceans, and thus intermediate between planetary-scale and mesoscale phenomena. Such phenomena include anticyclones, depressions (extratropical cyclones), and tropical cyclones, as well as air masses and fronts. These features may be studied and followed reasonably well by the current network of synoptic stations.
