The portable shrine said to have been constructed under Moses's direction during the wilderness wanderings. Theologically it was held to embody the presence of God in the midst of His people. The writer of Heb. used the imagery of the Tabernacle to explain the meaning of Christ's atoning work (cf. Heb. 1: 9–10: 25).
