a powerful immunosuppressant drug administered orally or by intravenous infusion to prevent rejection of transplanted organs. It is also used, in the form of an ointment, to treat atopic eczema. Side-effects may include impairment of the liver, kidneys, and heart, tremor, headache, and gastrointestinal upsets. Trade names: Prograf, Protopic.
