It is an offence, under s 12 of the Theft Act 1968, punishable by up to six months' imprisonment and/or a fine, for a person to take a conveyance for his own or someone else's use (albeit temporary) without the permission of the owner, or to drive or be transported in a conveyance knowing that it has been taken without the owner's consent.
