Originally a 1971 ballet film directed by Reginald Mills with choreography by Ashton, music by Lanchbery, designs by Christine Edzard and masks by R. Doboujinsky. Based on the famous children's stories, its cast of animal characters—Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, et al—were danced by members of the Royal Ballet, including Ashton, A. Grant, K. Martin, Mead, Last, Coleman, Sleep, Collier, and L. Edwards. In 1992 Ashton's choreography was staged by Anthony Dowell for Covent Garden.
