Substantial temple and cemetery area in the Nile Delta, excavated by Flinders Petrie in 1883–6 and Pierre Montet in 1929–51. Amongst the most significant discoveries were the rich and well‐preserved royal tombs of the 21st and 22nd Dynasties (1070–715bc) constructed in the precincts of the great temple dedicated to Amen.
