The set of protocols which enable communication over the Internet. The impression given by this name is that there are only two protocols involved: the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Internet Protocol (IP). There are in fact many more, including the Unreliable Datagram Protocol and the Internet Control Message Protocol. Sometimes written as TCP/IP.
