Quick Reference

A converging lens placed between a telescope's objective and the focal point to reduce the effective focal length. A telecompressor provides a smaller focal ratio and, ideally, a wider field of view. Telecompressors are designed particularly for photography with Schmidt–Cassegrain telescopes, typically changing the usual f/10 to f/5, but have a similar effect on refractors.
