It. male soprano. Went to London 1758, being hailed as Guadagni's successor. Sang in f.p. of Arne's Artaxerxes, 1762. Sang at King's Th., 1763–6 and in Dublin 1765–8. Sang at Handel Fests. 1784 and 1791. Mozart wrote song for him (lost). Wrote hpd. sonatas and treatise on singing. Last appearance 1785 as Orfeo (Gluck).
