An inflammation at the point where a tendon inserts into or originates from bone. It usually arises from overuse and causes pain at the insertion during active motion. It is not common in adults, but in adolescents occurs as Sever–Haglund's disease when there is pain at the insertion of the Achilles tendon into the calcaneus, and as Osgood–Schlatter's disease when there is pain at the tendon insertion at the tibial tuberosity.
