Quick Reference

Also known colloquially as an end exam, the terminal examination is one which takes place on completion of the course of study. Examples include examinations for the award of a degree at the end of the period of undergraduate studies; and the external testing in General Certificate of Secondary Education subjects which takes place at the end of Key Stage 4. A terminal examination is a means of carrying out a summative assessment, rather than an ongoing formative evaluation of the candidate's performance.

Subjects: Education.
